AFC Wimbledon Girls Season Summary

Goodfellows are delighted to sponsor AFC Wimbledon Girls U15 – and very proud of them and their achievements this season.

The girls have been playing in the competitive Surrey Girls League U15 Premier Division with some of the best local teams around. The season progressed really well with the team winning every game from September to December and sitting at the top of the table. This is the position they have continued to hold and by the end of April they had only lost one game and drawn another which confirmed them as League Champions, by 1 point ahead of Denham Ladies but 20 points clear of the 3rd placed team.

They also reached the Surrey County Cup Final and en route defeated the defending Champions. The final was played on 8th May at Redhill Football Club against Crystal Palace on the hottest day of the year so far. Leading 2-0 at half time Crystal Palace came out fighting and scored a quick goal but AFC Wimbledon composed themselves and despite conceding 2 more goals came away 6-3 winners and crowned Surrey Champions for 2016.

They have also played in a two day tournament held at Butlins in Bognor Regis, which was a great experience for the girls to play against teams they have never played against before. There were four games on day one and a nervous start saw them draw 0-0 but from then on the girls settled down and won the three remaining games.

Day two saw two more games to play and two more wins.  The team only conceded 2 goals throughout the tournament and scored 13 - winning the tournament by 4 clear points and allowing them to enter the grand final in July against the other regional champions.

This has been a fantastic season for AFC Wimbledon as a whole with 2 League Champions, 4 runners up, 1 League Cup and 4 Surrey County Cups.  Huge congratulations from all at Goodfellows to the girls, their families and their coaches.
