The aromatic smells of Christmas, the smell of rich, full-boded spices such as cinnamon, cloves, peppermint, and conifers are those most closely associated with the festive season, instantly taking us back to childhood memories of Christmas. Our sense of smell is closely linked to our memory, some scientists claim that the sense of smell more so than any other senses.
So making our house smell like Christmas really will enhance the joy of the quickly approaching season, as well as creating fond memories for our children.
One of the most old fashion ways to create a Christmas aroma in your home is to press cloves into oranges, tied up with ribbon; in the 70’s this used to be one of the Christmas presents kids took home for their parents to enjoy. However if you don’t want to go to the fuss of adding the ribbon just press some cloves into some oranges, and leave near a radiator and they will diffuse Christmas aromas into your room.
Another way to bring the Christmas smell into your home is to diffuse some pure essential oils. Try out any of these:
Pure needle essential oil
Cinnamon Oil
Frankincense essential oil
Clove Bud essential oil
Ginger essential oil
Nutmeg essential oil
Sweet orange essential oil
Candles are another really good way of bringing Christmas aromas into the home, natural candles are better as they do not contain fragrance chemicals which could be harmful if inhaled.
Decorate your home with fresh plant cuttings, such as bunches of cinnamon, Confir cuttings will also bring a lovely fresh Christmas feel to your home. If you have an artificial tree, then you could add a touch of Christmas smell, by blending 6 drops of pine, 1 drop of Cypress, 2 drops of grapefruit and 1 drop of Cedar Virginia, add this to a water bottle and spray (do this before adding your lights), or place a few drops of the mixture onto cotton wool balls and dab.
