Our love of cats in the UK has increased over the past few years, there are now 8.5 million in the UK, with around 19% of homeowners owning one or more cats. They are one of the most popular pets in the UK, which unfortunately is not helping our wild bird population, as they are estimated by the RSPB, (the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) to kill 275 million each year, which they state have heralded their decline.

So we checked out the most popular places for cats in the UK, using the Mirror’s data offshoot, ampp3d, which has created a Cat Map of Britain. If you click on this link you will be able to see the most cat-loving areas in the UK and the most popular breeds http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/ampp3d/cat-map-britain-wheres-most-5184092.

One of the most popular areas in the UK is Birmingham, with Guildford, Surrey having over 7,000 micro-chipped pedigree cats; Burmese cats are the most popular.

The research also shows how many cats there are per square mile, with South West London having 803 cats per square mile, North London having 734 cats per square mile and in the South East of London there are 633.
