Charlotte – The Royal baby arrives

It’s been an exciting week for the UK as Kate and William, the Prince and Princess of Wales announced the arrival of the new royal baby Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. The name Charlotte comes from the female form of the male name Charles, and is of French origin meaning ‘free man.’

There are various reasons why the happy couple might have called their new baby Charlotte. Queen Charlotte was the wife of King George the III, as well as being the middle name of Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton, a family name that has been passed down through the Middleton family since 1825, from Kate’s great-great-great Grandmother.

Elizabeth, has come from Princess Charlotte’s great-grandmother and grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. However, Elizabeth is also very fitting as it is also Kate’s middle name, and that of her mother’s too. Elizabeth means ‘oath of God.’

Diana is a very touching way to remember William’s own Mother, Diana Princess of Wales, which is the first name in the British monarchy. The name Diana means ‘the divine.’

Bookies, Ladbrokes, are already taking bets on who is the most likely to be Charlotte’s Godparents, high up on the list is William’s brother Prince Harry and Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton, they are also taking bets on the following people:
1/3 Princess Beatrice
2/5 Princess Eugenie
1/2 Peter Philips
4/6 Hugh van Cutsem JR
5/4 James Middleton
3/1 Laura Lopes
4/1 Fergus Boyd
4/1 Guy Pelly

Retailers are also getting on the Royal baby bandwagon; Pizza Hut have celebrated her arrival by offering a free pizza at various branches including London, a butchers in Kings Lynn have introduced a new type of sausage to their range – ‘the Charlotte burger’, as well Yorkshire Tea introducing their special edition Charlotte tea, Yahoo lifestyle have introduced The Princess Charlotte Effect: Limited Edition Merchandise.
