A Room with a View written in 1908 by the English writer E M Foster was a story based around the repression of women in the early 20th Century. Foster’s creates a beautiful account of both romance and the way in which women found themselves constrained by the rules of society during that period.

The story starts with a dispute between the main character Lucy Honeychurch and the proprietor of a hotel. Lucy has booked a room with a view over River Arno but finds that she has been given a bedroom looking over a courtyard.
