The weather this weekend is going to be a bit mixed, so it might be the perfect time, between showers, to plan, buy some plants and create your own hanging basket.

If you fancy a spring hanging basket then why not buy some bulbs that are just about to come into flower and plant them. Or choose some bright coloured annuals such as Geraniums, choosing a colour theme to run through your baskets.

If you fancy something a bit different then why not create an edible hanging basket. There are various types of edible plants that love growing from a basket, such as strawberries, nasturtiums, Chilis, tomatoes.

A themed basket could be great for cooking; such as an Italian Basket, with tomatoes and flat leaf basil, or if you prefer Mexican how about planting a smaller variety of tomato such as the sweet million, surrounded by Early Jalapeno pepper, lettuce and chives.

If you would like some help on how to prepare your basket then why not visit the BBC website, where they have all of the basic techniques on how to plant your own basket or visit some of the great garden centres in Surrey for advice:
