Dorking – one of the best places to live in the UK

Dorking is a quintessentially English market town nestled in the valley of Pipp Brook, close to the Surrey Hills. It has also been voted one of the best places to live in the UK by the Daily Mail - based on several factors including being within a good commuting distance from London.

Its sprawling, cobbled high street offers a diverse range of independent shops, as well as national chains, cosy coffee shops and a good selection of restaurants. There is also a Waitrose, and M&S and a Sainsbury’s. West Street is home to individual antique shops, a perfect place to find some unique furniture or unusual item for your home.

Every Friday there is a local market held in St Martin’s car park, which has great choice of local produce from Billy Westley’s large fruit and vegetable stall where you can pick up a basket and help yourself, to Jim Jacksons stall with its homeware bargains, including cleaning products and tinned and bottled food produce. Plus Bobby’s fresh Sussex fish, McCarthy’s Bakery and Cheese and Olive stall. If you want to buy your meat locally then the Bridge Farm stall sells excellent Surrey Farmed Meats as well as several other stalls.
