Sutton has so much going for it, not only is it one of the safest boroughs in London it also has very high achieving schools – in fact the latest league table’s showed that pupils GCSE achievements were some of the best in the country. It also offers great transport links in and out of London and easy access to the M25 and plenty of open green spaces.
Sutton is also a very vibrant place to live with its thriving business centre, Town Centre and seven other district centres.
All of these things have resulted in the property market remaining very buoyant. According to Hometrack, one bedroom flats experienced the largest growth at 8.36% last year, which means that the average cost of a flat now stands at £272,763 compared to £251,720 in 2015, this is mainly due to the fact it is very popular with first time buyers. Followed by terraced properties which saw an increase of 7.21%, the average terraced flat in Sutton now stands at £404,160 compared to £376,980 in 2015. Semi-detached properties saw the lowest price rises at 4.67%, from £495,872 in 2015 to £519,029 in 2017*.
House prices according to Jayne McCoy, chairwoman at Sutton Housing economy and business committee are due to increase due to their exciting plans for the borough including The London Cancer Hub.
Although house prices in Sutton are much more affordable than in some other areas she says they still remain too much for many therefore they are building new homes with affordable rent.
