September days out

September 4th 2014

One of the more recently created obscure days that are celebrated during the month is International Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19th.  With its history dating back to 1995, it was the idea of two Americans and has been adopted worldwide.   A fun tongue in cheek look at the world of pirates, it’s a lighthearted day enjoyed by all ages.
Close to our Cheam Goodfellows office, there’s a Bat Walk which starts at Whitehall Museum, Cheam on Saturday 20th September – booking for the walk is essential – call the museum on 020 8643 1236 or email (the cost is £4 per person).  Bats are vital for the pollination of flowers and dispersal of fruit seeds, they are also important as they consume insect pests which reduces the need for pesticides.
Other events during September include the Great River Race which is a 21.6 mile boat race on the River Thames going from Ham House in Richmond, to Island Gardens on the Isle of Dogs, on Saturday 27th September.  It attracts over 300 crews from all over the world.  It’s a great fun day out with fancy dress, charity events and all level of competitors – those who are taking part just for fun, and serious sportsmen and women as well.

Finch & Co. are opening their doors to local residents on Wednesday 24th September 6-8pm in support of local artist Kevin Williams– please join us for a drink and some nibbles between 6 and 8 pm. We will have a display of some of Kevin’s paintings so please come and browse whilst enjoying a drink (paintings will be available for purchase). A children’s drawing competition will also take place with Kevin judging the winner at the end of the evening. If you are unable to join us on the evening, the art work will be on display in the office until the 4th October. RSVP in person, by phone or email on 020 8542 1193 or
