Some amazing Wimbledon Strawberry facts…

Wimbledon has always been associated with strawberries and cream, but we were amazed when we found these facts on the official Wimbledon website:

• Wimbledon strawberries are always served in punnets of not less than 10 berries with cream

• 8,615 punnets are consumed per day

• A staggering 28,000kg consumed over the tournament with 7000 litres of fresh cream

• Strawberries are usually sourced from a LEAF (which is a charity Integrated Farm management balancing organic with chemical practices).

• They are normally Grade 1 English strawberries from Kent each day at around 5.30 a.m.

Since 1990, it might be a sign of the times, but strawberries and cream at Wimbledon have only increased by 90p, however in 2010 strawberry lovers appealed to the umpire at Wimbledon over the increased price of fruit, however The All England Club said the price had risen by just 90p since 1990, which was 'very good value'.
?Price for a portion of a minimum of 10 strawberries and cream at Wimbledon:
