Virtual Tour Around The World

January 28th 2014
By: Melanie Hollidge

February might be the shortest month but with loads to cram in, it’ll be a busy one, let me take you on a virtual tour….

From the middle of the month, going into March there’s the most famous masked ball of all.  The Venetian carnival is the home of masks.  Having recently visited, I was amazed to see so many shops dedicated to masquerade.  If you’re lucky enough to be there during the Carnival, you’ll be able to join in the whirlwind of emotion that is totally unforgettable.

The Carnival is now world famous - it always takes place during the ten days leading up to Shrove Tuesday. Carnival, being a pre-Lent festival, means 'farewell to meat' and is celebrated throughout Italy.

February is Black History Month and New York celebrates with Afro- American art throughout the city.  For those who would rather eat and drink, the New York City Beer week runs at the end of the month.  There’s also a City Bakery Hot Chocolate Festival for the chocolate lovers amongst us, and this runs for the whole month.

Why not travel to Paris to celebrate Chinese New Year and take advantage of their end of season sales?  Visit the Eiffel Tower, The Louvre and The Notre Dame Cathedral and spend time enjoying them without the summer queues.

Whilst winter continues outside in Amsterdam throughout the month, the ice skating rinks are full of visitors and locals. For a fresh sound of Beethoven, the Orchestra of Eighteenth Century perform with style and skill using authentic period instruments.  They present all five of Beethoven’s piano concertos during a three day festival in the city.
