Children's recipe for Mother's Day

For all mums, grandmothers, step mums, aunties, foster mums, teachers and anyone else who looks after children – have a very happy Mother’s Day.

How about a recipe that’s so easy a child can make it themselves – this microwave mug cake recipe from BBC Good Food is virtually foolproof and tastes delicious – you can alter the recipe to add ginger, lemon or chocolate – whatever your mum likes the most!

Large mug
4 tbsp self raising flour
4 tbsp caster sugar
2 tbsp cocoa powder (or hot chocolate powder)
1 medium egg
3 tbsp milk
3 tbsp vegetable/sunflower oil
For your taste – 1 tsp ginger or a few drops of vanilla or other essence, choc chips or raisins.

1 Use the largest mug you can find so the mixture doesn’t overflow, add the flour, sugar, and cocoa powder to the mug and mix.
2 Add the egg and mix it in as much as you can.
3 Add all the other ingredients and mix until smooth.
4 Put your mug in the centre of the microwave and cook on high for 4 or 5 minutes – until it has stopped rising and is firm to the touch.
