Surviving this week's heat wave…

The weather looks set to be improving this week, so much so that we are expecting a heat wave, so we have put together a list of things you can do to survive this weeks rise in temperatures:

 
• Open your windows and doors when it’s cooler and keep them closed during the day when it’s hotter. By keeping your curtains closed it will also help to keep the heat out.

 
• Try and make sure that you do not keep electrical devices running, such as computers or televisions as these will heat up the house. Rather than using your oven, which will heat up your home, try and use your BBQ or eat foods such as salads and so fourth.

 
• Keep hydrated, try and drink plenty of water, avoiding alcoholic substances, and tea and coffee as caffeine can also promote dehydration.

 
• If you feel really hot, dampen towels with cold water and wrap them around your head or shoulders. Filling a pan with ice and cold water and then directing a fan over the top will give the sensation of an air-conditioning.

 
• Heat rises, so if you find it is too hot upstairs try and stay on the ground floor where it is cooler.

 
• Taking a tepid shower and bath is also a good way to get your body temperature down.
