Time to prepare for indoor-outdoor living

May is the time of year to prepare your home for the summer season of indoor-outdoor living. First get outside and inspect your decking.  It is always a good idea to refresh your patio or deck at this time of year with a new coat of paint or stain. A once-a-year refresh will help extend the life of the wood and keep it looking its best.

You might not have had your first barbecue of the year, although the first May bank holiday was a bit of a scorcher for many, but with the second May bank holiday on its way, how about making sure your outdoor kitchen is up to the task?  Give it a good clean and possibly even adding a few fun features— how about a work surface, some bar seating or even an outdoor fridge?

Clean out the shed or garage. You have to go in there to find the garden chairs and see what needs repairing, no one said it would be easy, but making room in your storage shed or garage will feel great when it’s done. Once you have freed up some space, you might be inspired to make the space even more useful —some wall-mounted storage, a work surface or extra shelving?

When it’s done remember to enjoy your home — treat yourself to a simple pleasure. Bring home a bottle of wine or flowers, just because. Take time to sit in your indoor -outdoor space and relax. As the evenings get lighter and warmer invite friends over on a weeknight just to catch up and hang out.
