If you are looking to save money on your shopping bill then there are some really good ways in which you can save money without having to leave the comfort of your home. The first way in which we can save money on our food is to make sure that we keep an eye on portion control, check out the LoveFoodHateWaste portion planner.

They state that by stocking up on freezer bags, clips, pegs, takeaway containers, ice cream tubs, foil, clingfilm and even kitchen paper we can help to reduce the massive £12.5 billion food which is thrown away in this country every year.

Another way to save waste and money is by storing refrigerated items correctly - take them out of the original packaging once opened, such as cheese and place in a plastic bag or cling film this will stop the items from going off.

They state that containers are a really good way of storing food, and keeping it from going off – but don’t go out and buy them especially instead store them in pre-used clean takeaway tubs or ice cream containers.

If you think food in your fridge is going to go off because you can’t eat it in time then pop it into your freezer so that you can use it another day.  They state that the key to storing food in the freezer successfully is to ensure that all of the air is squeezed out of the container, if zips on freezer bags don’t work then tie a knot in them.
